Wawoojongsa/Waujeongsa Temple [와우정사] is a modern temple established in 1970 by Kim Hae-geun (김해근) — Buddhist name Haewol Samjang Beopsa (해월 삼장법사) — who was a North Korean escapee. Now the main branch of the Nirvana order, it is located in Yongin’s neighborhood Haegok [Haegok-dong/해곡동] in the Cheoin District [Cheoin-gu/처인구]; 25 mins. by car to/from Kumho Asiana Human Resources Development Institute [금호아시아나 인재개발원].
The temple has approximately over 3,000 statues, including statues of ‘500 saints’ (오백나한상) and of the 12 zodiac animals (12지신 동상) .
