Waryong Park [와룡(臥龍)공원] is a public park located in Seoul’s neighborhood Myeongnyun [Myeongnyun-dong/명륜동] — administered by Hyehwa [Hyehwa-dong/혜화동] — in the Jongno District [Jongno-gu/종로구]; just at the frontier of the neighborhood Seongbuk. The park comes with amenities such as badminton and aerobics courts as well as pavilions. It is mostly known for its plum and cherry trees, azaleas, and forsythia blossoming in Spring and for creating a material frontier for Bukjeong Village [북정마을].
The park is also part of the 4.7km long Baegak Mountain Trail, a section of Hanyangdoseong/Seoul Fortress Wall [한양도성] that runs between the gates Changuimun [창의문/彰義門] and Hyehwamun [혜화문/惠化門]; actor Kim Nam-gil traverses a section of the trail and narrates the experience for his project Gilstory. It also crosses Mt. Baegak (present-day Mt. Bugak), thought to be the main and highest mountain “in old Seoul according to geomantic theory“. Along the fortress wall, a cherry tree-flanked hiking trail passes right through the park and offers a panoramic view of Seoul.
