Teheran-ro [테헤란로/خیابان تهران] is a 375 km-long, 10-lanes broad central street in Seoul’s Gangnam District [Gangnam-gu/강남구]. The street connects Gangnam-daero [강남대로] with Dongbu Expressway [동부간선도로] and thus traverses the neighborhood Yeoksam [Yeoksam-dong/역삼동] and serves as a dividing line between the neighborhoods Daechi [Daechi-dong/대치동] and Samseong [Samseong-dong/삼성동] — parts of the city that often stand-in for the development of South Korea’s economy and house the country’s tallest skyscrapers and most expensive real estate.

Over the years, the street is said to have garnered several nicknames that each reflect this development. From ‘Street of Hope (희망의 거리)’ in the mid-nineties over the ‘Holocaust of Teheran Road’ (referring to the national financial crisis) at the end-nineties to ‘Beauty Valley (뷰티 밸리)’ and Brand Valley in the mid-2000s (because of the rise in plastic surgery clinics and conglomerates in this part of town and the moving-out of IT and game development companies).

Originally named Samneung-ro [삼릉로/三陵路], the street was renamed in an exchange of street names on 27 June 1977 in reference to Iran’s capital Tehran on the occasion of a visit to Seoul of the then-Mayor of Tehran, Gholamreza Nikpey.
