Taejo-ro [태조로] is the main tourist street of Jeonju Hanok Village [전주 한옥마을], located in Jeonju’s neighborhood Gyo-dong [교동] —part of its administrative neighborhood Pungnam [Pungnam-dong/풍남동]— in the Wansan District [Wansan-gu/완산구]. Notably, this is where Gyeongjijeon Shrine and Jeondong Cathedral are located.

This street is named after King Taejo of Joseon (태조/강헌지인계운성문신무대왕) (1335-1408), who ruled as “the founder and the first king of the Joseon dynasty of Korea” between 1392-1398. The king’s mortuary tablet and the only known portrait of him are both housed in Gyeongjijeon Shrine.

In 2021, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism —announced through the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO)— selected Jeonju Hanok Village [전주 한옥마을] as one of the ‘100 Must-Visit Spots in Korea’ for 2021-2022.
