Taehwa Building [태화빌딩/泰和빌딩]
The office of company ‘Best Fairs’, run by Han Dong-jin (Kim Young-kwang) and his associate Choi Sun-woo (Jun Suk-ho), is located at this building (appearing as ‘Taerang Building’) in Call It Love (Sarang-ira Malhaeyo/사랑이라 말해요) (Disney+, 2023) – as seen, for instance, in episode 1. Shim Woo-joo (Lee Sung-kyung) starts to work here as a part-time assistant in the same episode.
Taehwa Building [태화빌딩/泰和빌딩], completed in 1982 and owned by the Taehwa Welfare Foundation [태화복지재단], is a 12-storey high office and residential building located in Seoul’s neighborhood Insa [Insa-dong/인사동] — under the administration of Jongno-1.2.3.4 ga-dong/Jongno 1(il).2(i).3(sam).4(sa) [종로1.2.3.4가동] —, in the Jongno District [Jongno-gu]; in close walking distance to/from Jongno Tower [종로타워] and Tapgol Park [탑골공원].
The offices of Taehwa Welfare Foundation are located on the building’s 11th floor.
Originally, the restaurant ‘Taehwa Hall/Taehwagwan [태화관/泰和館]’ was located at this site and this is where the Declaration of Independence (독립선언서) was read by representatives of the March 1st Movement on March 1 1919. Taehwa Hall itself was modeled after Joseon Times high-class restrauant Myeongwolgwan (명월관/明月館), which opened in 1909 and was destroyed in 1918. The sign stone ‘삼일독립선언유적지 기념비’ in front of today’s building was set up to remember this moment in Korea’s history; but can be easily looked over when visiting the area.
