The rooftop of this building appears as ‘Sunset Land’, Koo Se-ra’s (Im Jin-a/Nana from After School) secret place in Memorials/Into the Ring /The Ballot (출사표) (KBS2, 2020). She comes to think and reconsider things the first time here in episode 6. In episode 8, Seo Gong-myung (Park Sung-hoon) tracks down this place after 2.5 hours of searching; from then, on both share this secret spot — alone (like in episode 8) or together (like in episodes 8 and 10). Additionally, this building appears as the building housing ‘Harvard Oriental Clinic’ in episode 3 of where Gong-myung and Se-ra track down the malicious commenter ‘rurumom’ who turns out to be a high schooler.
Sun Plaza [썬프라자], originally named ‘태양의 집’ (Sun House), is a non-residential building for commercial purposes designed in 1979 and completed in 1982. It is the only commercial facility designed by the late award-winning Korean architect Kim Joong-up (김중업) (1922–1988), who created its unique architecture with “curved surfaces, circular motifs, and ramps“, and “wanted to create organic texture by using a rough-surface red brick rather than a smooth wall“.
This building is located in Seoul’s neighborhood Daerim [Daerim-dong/대림동], in the Yeongdeungpo District [Yeongdeungpo-gu/영등포구] — in walking distance to/from Green Game Land [그린개임랜드] and a 4 min. drive to/from Singil-ro 34-gil [신길로34길]. It houses a Lotte Supermarket [롯데슈퍼 썬프라자점], several restaurants (including a Domino’s Pizza Branch [도미노피자 대림점]), diverse shopping offerings such as clothing stores, the florist Flower Garden [썬프라자꽃화원] and a Daiso branch [다이소 굿모닝마트썬프라자점] as well as a wedding hall [썬프라자웨딩홀부페], a fitness club, a beauty parlor and a karaoke bar. The building’s rooftop was renovated in March 2018 but it is unclear if it’s open for public access.
