Shinsegae Central City [센트럴시티], established on November 03 1977, is a ‘cultural complex’ similar to COEX located in Seoul’s neighborhood Banpo [Banpo-dong/반포동], in the Seocho District [Seocho-gu/서초구]. It is thought of as ‘a small city inside the city‘ (hence the name) with shopping, leisure, culture, accommodation, and public facilities. Seoul’s Central City Bus Terminal [센트럴시티터미널(호남)], which started as Seoul Bus Terminal Co. Ltd. in 1968, is the oldest part of this complex, which is today mostly occupied by Shinsegae Department Store [신세계백화점 강남점], Shinsegae Duty Free, and JW Marriott Hotel Seoul.
Located above Shinsegae Department Store, JW Marriott Hotel Seoul [JW메리어트호텔 서울] is a five-star hotel with “panoramic city views”, comprising 379 rooms including 32 suites and two penthouses. It was opened in 1999.
