Seo Min-jun (Choi Si-won of Super Junior) and Han Ji-won (Uee) briefly meet here during the protest to reinstate the virtual dating app in ‘Love Virtually / Augmented Bean Pod’ (증강 콩깍지), episode 7 of SF8 (에스 에프 에잇) (MBC, 2020).
Yeo Ha-jin (Mun Ka-young) holds a fan signing here to promote her movie ‘My First Love’, in episode 7 (full episode 4) of Find Me in Your Memory (그 남자의 기억법) (MBC, 2020). Lee Jung-hoon (Kim Dong-wook) and Jo Il-kwon (Lee Jin-hyuk) spots her as they pass by the area. Jung-hoon is back here in episode 28 (full episode 14), on the phone with Ha-jin while on his way to the broadcasting studio.
Kim Bom-i — as Lee Bom — (Eom Ji-won) sees herself (Lee Yu-ri) on the large LED screen, juxtaposed against the square’s iconic sculpture in episode 2 (full episode 1) of Spring Turns To Spring/Spring Is Coming (봄이 오나 봄) (MBC, 2019). Part of the MBC Headquarters [MBC문화방송 본사] can also be seen in the background of this scene. In episode 7 (full episode 4), Kim Bom-i — as Lee Bom — runs through the square to reach the broadcasting headquarters.
On episode 1 of I’m Not A Robot (로봇이 아니야) (MBC, 2017-18), Jo Ji-Ah (Chae Soo-Bin) has parked her scooter on a street leading up to this square (you see the sculpture in the background). This is also from where robot Aji3 starts to discover the world on her own in episodes 28-29 (as we see from her hard-disk in episode 30).
Kim Eun-gab (Cho Jin-woong) had a meeting close-by to determine Cha Young-bin’s (Seo Kang-joon) role in a drama in episode 10 of Entourage (안투라지) (tvN, 2016) and Jay Jung (Amber Josephine Liu /Amber of f(x)) joins him at this square and keeps asking him what’s his plan from now on.
Cha Do-hyun (Ji Sung) and Oh Ri-jin (Hwang Jung-eum) meet up at this square in episode 11 of Kill Me, Heal Me (킬미, 힐미) (MBC, 2015), which makes Ri-jin remember her previous encounters with his different personalities.
Ban Ji-yeon (Uhm Jung-hwa) walks towards this square in final episode 16 of A Witch’s Love/Witch’s Romance (마녀의 연애) (tvN, 2014) while reflecting on here life.
Sangam Culture Square [상암문화광장] is a public square that is located in Seoul’s neighborhood Sangam-dong [상암동], in the Mapo District [Mapo-gu/마포구], and sits right in the heart of Sangam Digital Media City. It is framed by MBC Broadcasting Station Building and the Korean Film Archive (한국영상자료원) [KOFA] as well as buildings of 24h news channel broadcaster YTN and the SBS Prism Tower [SBS프리즘타워]. The sculpture in the middle of the square —named ‘Square M – Communication’— was installed in 2013 and symbolizes the encounter and communication between humans and the world through the media (represented by the square frame).
