Kim Bom-i — as Lee Bom — (Eom Ji-won) sees herself (Lee Yu-ri) on the large LED screen, juxtaposed against the square’s iconic sculpture in episode 2 (full episode 1) of Spring Turns To Spring/Spring Is Coming (봄이 오나 봄) (MBC, 2019). Part of the MBC Headquarters [MBC문화방송 본사] can also be seen in the background of this scene. On episode 1 of I’m Not A Robot (로봇이 아니야) (MBC, 2017-18), Jo Ji-Ah (Chae Soo-Bin) has parked her scooter on a street leading up to this square (you see the sculpture in the background). This is also from where robot Aji3 starts to discover the world on her own in episodes 28-29 (as we see from her hard-disk in episode 30).
Cha Do-hyun (Ji Sung) and Oh Ri-jin (Hwang Jung-eum) meet up at this square in episode 11 of Kill Me, Heal Me (킬미, 힐미) (MBC, 2015), which makes Ri-jin remember her previous encounters with his different personalities.
Ban Ji-yeon (Uhm Jung-hwa) walks towards this square in final episode 16 of A Witch’s Love/Witch’s Romance (마녀의 연애) (tvN, 2014) while reflecting on here life.
Sangam Culture Square [상암문화광장] is a public square that is located in Seoul’s neighborhood Sangam-dong [상암동], in the Mapo District [Mapo-gu/마포구], and sits right in the heart of Sangam Digital Media City. It is framed by MBC Broadcasting Station Building and the Korean Film Archive (한국영상자료원) [KOFA] as well as buildings of 24h news channel broadcaster YTN and the SBS Prism Tower [SBS프리즘타워]. The sculpture in the middle of the square –named ‘Square M – Communication’– was installed in 2013 and symbolizes the encounter and communication between humans and the world through the media (represented by the square frame).
