Nami Island [남이섬] is an island in the North Han River, located around 2,5 hours from Seoul in Chuncheon’s Namsan Township [Namsan-myeon/남산면], that’s been transformed into an amusement park. It became famous with the airing of the drama Winter Sonata. In 2019, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism –announced through the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO)– selected Nami Island as one of the ‘100 Must-Visit Spots in Korea’ for 2019-2020. In 2021, it was again selected to figure among the Top 100 Must-Visit locations for the years 2021-22. The island also takes up place 41 in CNN’s 2019 list of 50 beautiful places to visit in South Korea.
Fun Fact: According to Wikipedia entry on Seoul’s Songpa District, the district collects their fallen Gingko leaves and sends them to this island, where they are used to heighten the sightseeing experience. The district saves like this “disposal cost by 12 million won a year” and advertise that “Songpa makes use of everything, even fallen leaves.”
