Myeongbo Building [명보빌딩] –sometimes also Stradeum Building [스트라디움빌딩]— is a four-storey commercial building located in Seoul’s neighborhood Hannam [Hannam-dong/한남동] in the Yongsan District [Yongsan-gu/용산구]; just vis-à-vis Building Itaewon-ro #254.
The building houses Theory’s Hannam Branch [띠어리 한남점] since April 2018 and the sonic space Stradeum that moved into this building in October 2015.
Stradeum [스트라디움], a venue dedicated to sound, is run by South Korean consumer electronics company iRiver [아이리버가], which is known for its digital audio players. Its name ‘stradeum’ is a combination of ‘strad’ (short for the famous string instrument Stradivarius) and ‘odeum’ (a concert hall or theater; from Latin ōdēum and Greek ōideion) and refers, in general, to the idea of ‘a space where you can enjoy good sound’.
Stradeum stretches across the building’s four floors. There is a listening room to enjoy music individually or in groups on the first basement floor, along with two music rooms and the ‘Sound Alcove’ — a space to enjoy music in one’s own space. A sound gallery with music-related exhibitions is located on the ground floor. The second and third floors are equipped with studios for professional musicians that were designed by Japanese acoustic designer Sam Toyoshima. Finally, a rooftop café on the fourth floor offers views of Namsan.
