Mangwon Market [망원시장], with the tagline ‘harmony & pleasant’, is an indoor market and one of Seoul’s major markets that is around since the 1980s. The market is known for its food stalls and restaurants as well as vegetables and fruits stands and according to an entry by Visit Seoul from 2021 “it has become known as a hot spot in Mangwon-dong, which is commonly visited by many people in their 20s and 30s.” Apparently the hype dates back to 2013 when Rose Motel’s Yook Jung-wan/Yuk Jung-wan (육중완) starred in the TV show I Live Alone/Home Alone (나 혼자 산다) (MBC, 2013 ~) and they filmed here. In general, this market was featured quite a lot in variety shows during the mid-2010s.

The market is located in walking distance to/from Mangwon Hangang Park [망원한강공원] in Seoul’s neighborhood Mangwon [Mangwon-dong/망원동] in the Mapo District [Mapo-gu/마포구] — hence perfectly placed to grab a picnic here and eat it with a view on Han River.
