Kim Jin-hyeok (Park Bo-gum) brings Cha Soo-hyun (Song Hye-gyo) here for a walk in episode 5 of Encounter/Boyfriend (남자친구) (tvN, 2018-19). Soo-hyun wondered aloud about how Jin-hyeok said he wanted to see an art exhibition, and he showed her that there was indeed an art exhibition — on the bridge itself. Despite claiming that she had been fooled, Soo-hyun continued to follow Jin-hyeok, as the ‘docent of Hongje-dong’ continued to explain the various art pieces along the way.
Hongnam Bridge [홍남교] is a bridge that the Naebu Expressway [내부순환로] crosses over, located in Seoul’s neighborhood Namgajwa [Namgajwa-dong/남가좌동] in the Seodaemun District [Seodaemun-gu/서대문구].
Aside from having the Hongje Stream [홍제천] flowing parallel underneath, it also has a unique art gallery concept: various artworks are displayed on its columns along a cycling/walking path. The painting that Kin-hyeok and Soo-hyun admire in Encounter is, for instance, the painting “Where, in What Form, Shall We Meet Again?” by Kim Whan-ki for which he had won the first Hankook Ilbo Fine Art Competition in 1970. It is said that this painting “shows the essence of his abstract art.” Visit hancinema.net/shedding-new-light-on-kim-whan-ki-37222.html for more information.
