Gyeongui Line Forest Park [경의선숲길공원/경의선 숲길 공원 or 경의선공원] — also known as Yontral Park [연트럴파크] as it resembles New York’s Central Park—, opened in 2016, is a 6,3km stretch of a linear public park that was built where the former Gyeongui Line ran (as still seen in The Snow Queen) — hence its name. Modeled after New Works High Line, the old railroad tracks that were built in 1905 by the Japanese colonial government are now entirely part of this park and are souvenirs of its former ‘self’. The part of this park between Hongik University Station’s Exit 6 and Wau Bridge [와우교] is formed by Gyeongui Line Book Street [경의선책거리] in which bookshops in train wagon form invite to spend some time. Opened on October 29 2016, this 250 meters-long section was created under the “theme of books.”

The park stretches between Seoul’s neighborhoods Yeonnam [Yeonnam-dong/연남동] in the Mapo District [Mapo-gu/마포구] along the north of Hongdae [홍대] in Seogyo [Seogyo-dong/서교동], which sort of creates Hongdae’s frontier to Hyochang [Hyochang-dong/효창동] in the Yongsan District [Yongsan-gu/용산구]. Min-kyu (I’m Not A Robot) calls it the hot spot and ‘Street of Youth’.

In 2018, it was designated Seoul’s Future Heritage (서울미래유산) given out since 2012 by the city’s government.
