Gwanghwamun Kyobo Building [광화문교보빌딩]

Find Me In Your Memory (2020)

After meeting each other at a bookstore, Yeo Ha-jin (Moon Ga-young) heads out to the street in episode 31 (full episode 16) of Find Me in Your Memory (그 남자의 기억법) (MBC, 2020). Moments later, Lee Jung-hoon (Kim Dong-wook) comes out to look for her, missing her by a few seconds as she had gone back into the bookstore to look for him.

Gwanghwamun Kyobo Building [광화문교보빌딩] — also known as Kyobo Life Building [교보생명빌딩] — houses the main store of Kyobo Books [교보문고 광화문점] in its basement. It is located in Seoul’s neighborhood Jongno-1(il)-ga [종로1가] — under the administration of Jongno-1.2.3.4 ga-dong/Jongno 1(il).2(i).3(sam).4(sa) [종로1.2.3.4가동] — in the Jongno District.

The engraved quote seen in front of this building reads “사람은 책을 만들고 책은 사람을 만든다”, translated as “People make books, and books make people”, attributed to the late Shin Yong-ho, founder of Kyobo Life Insurance, who opened the first Kyobo Books branch here in 1981.

Drama note: The bookstore interior seen in Find Me In Your Memory is not only that of a rival bookstore chain (YP Books), it is also at a completely different location from this building.
