In episode 24 of The King In Love/The King Loves (왕은 사랑한다) (MBC, 2017), Wang Won (Im Shi-wan, former member of ZE:A), together with Wang Rin (Hong Jong-hyun) and Eun San (Im Yoon-a), happily spend moments in a beautiful azalea-filled landscape as he narrates his growing love for San, and heart-achingly concludes, “The day we smiled with agony lasted only for a short moment.”
Goryeosan Mountain [고려산], nicknamed by some as ‘the pink mountain’, is located on Ganghwa Island [강화도], the fifth largest South Korean island, in Incheon.
It is known for its annual Azalea Festival, the Goryeosan Jindallae Festival [고려산진달래축제], that takes place mid to end April (April 14~22 in 2018). For visiting the mountain and having the best view at the pink-tainted scenery, you’d need to make a 1-1.5 hour hike up to its peak in a rather moderate climb that gets a bit steep at the end.
Address of start of hike: 317 Bugeun-ri, Hajeom-myeon, Kanghwa, Incheon, South Korea
인천 강화군 하점면 부근리 317 고인돌광장 일원
Geolocation of mountain: 37.745027, 126.437225
Geolocation of start of hike: 37.773145, 126.436428
Getting here: Take bus no. 3000 from bus stop ‘Sinchon Ogeori Subway Line 2 Sinchon Station’ (right out of Sinchon station, Seoul subway line 2, exit 4) for a little over an hour (37 stops) to Ganghwa Intercity Bus Terminal (Ganghwa Bus Terminal) [강화여객자동차터미널]. From there, take another bus (no. 1, 23, 25, 27, 30, 32 or 70) to Ganghwa History Museum (Dolmen) [강화역사박물관(고인돌)] from where most hikers start their climb.
