Expo Bridge/Expogyo [엑스포다리]
This bridge frequently appears in the background of Barro’s office in Search: WWW/Type in Search Word: WWW (검색어를 입력하세요: WWW) (tvN, 2019); as seen, for instance, in episode 12.
Lee Yeon-seo (Shin Hye-sun) — with angel Kim Dan (Kim Myung-soo) following after her — breaks down on this bridge in episode 1 (full episode 1) of Angel’s Last Mission: Love/Dan, Only Love (단, 하나의 사랑) (KBS2, 2019) and thinks back to when she came here and danced on its railing to prove that she can still be a ballerina without being able to see. In the present, she regains her spirits while noticing Kim Dan’s presence (who is very close). In episode 12 (full episode 6), Kim Dan comes to this bridge, heartbroken about his love to Yeon-seo when all of a sudden Ji Kang-woo (Lee Dong-gun) appears, threatens him and they both wrestle and fall off the bridge.
Expo Bridge/Expogyo [엑스포다리], sometimes also Expo Dari Bridge, is a 20 meters-long pedestrian bridge designed by Hui Lee Shun that spans the Gapcheon/Gap River [갑천]. The blue and red colored arches that span over the bridge symbolize Yin and Yang, the Great Absolute. The 100 cables that hold this bridge signal the 100th anniversary of Korea’s first participation in an international exhibition. It is located in Dajeon’s neighborhood Doryong [Doryong-dong/도룡동] in the Yuseong District [Yuseong-gu/유성구]; not very far away to/from Golfzon Zoimaru [골프존 조이마루].
The bridge was built during the international Taejŏn Expo ’93 (대전엑스포 ’93) and has since become one of Daejeon’s landmarks. The area where the exposition took place in 1993 was later refurbished into the Expo Science Park, where the bridge is now located.
This bridge was featured on a stamp in the ‘2nd Bridge Series’ issued in 2005 by the South Korean Post.
