The (fake) kidnapping and killing of Park Chang-ho (Lee Jong-suk) takes place at this resort’s swimming pool in episode 14 of Big Mouth/Big Mouse (빅마우스) (MBC/Disney+, 2022).

This location is also featured in episode 1 of Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area (종이의 집: 공동경제구역) (Netflix, 2022). The heist team walk through the resort grounds to the swimming pool, and choose their nicknames by spinning a globe of the world and selecting a city where they want to live after they get rich.

Makeup artist Do Hae-soo (Jang Hee-jin) stages a murder scene at the empty pool of this ski resort in episode 4 of Flower of Evil (악의 꽃) (tvN, 2020). The director instructs her to make the wound look fresher but then she questions if he had ever seen a murdered corpse in real life. She applies more fake blood to the actor but was interrupted when she received an unexpected phone call from Cha Ji-won (Moon Chae-won). In episode 8, siblings Do Hyun-soo (Lee Joon-gi) and Hae-soo meet for the first time in 18 years, also at the pool.

Alps Ski Resort [얼푸스스키장 폐장 or 알프스스키장 for short] is an abandoned ski resort located in the village of Heul [Heul-ri/흘리] in Goseong County’s Ganseong Township [Ganseong-eup/간성읍], about a 2 hour drive northeast of Seoul.

Opened in 1976 as Korea’s second ski resort, it enjoyed immense popularity till a decline in skiing, and a rise in skiing resorts located closer to Seoul, caused its closure in 2006. There appeared to be multiple attempts to revive the resort, but to no avail. This resort was also in the spotlight during the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games, as it was located in close proximity to the Olympic venues, and showed itself as a “preview of what’s to come after the Games are over“.

Getting here
The resort is an approx. 2 hour 20 minute bus ride from Dong Seoul Bus Station [동서울종합터미널] to the Jinburyeong Bus Stop [진부령정류소], and about a 30 min. walk from the stop.
