Also known as 63 Building [63빌딩] and the Golden Tower. This building was constructed as a landmark for the 1988 Summer Olympics, and was the tallest skyscraper in South Korea until 2003. This Hanhwa Group-owned building is the headquarters of a number big conglomerates in South Korea. Aside from corporate use, there are also retail stores, duty-free shops (Galleria), F&B, an art gallery and observatory also known as Sky Deck (63Art) on the 60th floor, an aquarium (Aqua Planet 63), and a convention centre.
Various parts of 63 Square has been featured in dramas:
– The gallery at 63Art was featured in episode 8 of Queen of Housewives (내조의 여왕) (MBC, 2009), and in the show, it is run by Eun So-hyun (Sun Wu-seon).
– In episode 8 of My Girl (마이 걸) (SBS, 2005-06), Ju Yu-rin (Lee Da-hae) finally fulfils her childhood dream to visit the observatory aka Sky Deck when she does so with Seol Gong-chan (Lee Dong-wook). In episode 16, the couple reunites here again and they seal their love with a kiss in the elevator.
– Often the building’s outside is also featured; especially in scenes at Yeouido Hangang Park [한강 공원 여의도 지구]. On Heo Im’s (Kim Nam-gil) “date” with Oh Ha-Ra (Roh Jeong-Eui) in episode 10 of Live Up To Your Name, Dr. Heo/Deserving of the Name (명불허전) (tvN, 2017), the 63 building is in the background.
When Nam Soo-Ri (Park Kyu-Sun) sees this building from the Han River he thinks there is a lump of gold integrated in its facade and wants to get it together with Habaek (Nam Joo-Hyuk) in episode 3 of tvN’s Bride of the Water God 2017 (하백의 신부 2017) (2017).
Ki-Bum (Key) fulfills Chae-Yeon’s (Jung Chae-Yeon) wish to see 63 Square up close in episode 16 of Drinking Solo (혼술남녀) (tvN, 2016) in taking her on a Hangang River Ferry Cruise.
63 Building was also featured in Running Man (런닝맨) episode 190 and We Got Married (우리 결혼했어요) season 3 (Nichkhun and Victoria’s first and final episode).
